Year One: Week commencing 2nd March 2020

Date: 6th Mar 2020 @ 12:36pm

As usual, we had a great week in Year One.  We had an adventure and went to Holmes Chapel library - see previous blog.  Thank you to the parent helpers.  We also had a one-off literacy session and wrote our own tongue twisters after reading Fox in Socks.

In English, we learned the story 'The Magnificent Tiger' and added the suffix -ing.  We started to use a comma and three adjectives to make sentences more interesting for the reader, for example Nora was sad, glum and frustrated.  In PE we had great fun playing games in pairs with beanbags, exploring movement.  In maths, we have counted in 2s, 5s and 10s using a variety of maths equipment.  Any practise at home would be great.  In science, we have explored the differences between birds and reptiles.

As usual, the children were given spellings to do at home.  I have attached these to this blog just in case they didn't make it home.  In your child's reading book, there is a sticker to tell you which colour group your child is in, so you can choose to open the correct colour group.

I have arranged a school trip to Knowsley Safari Park for Friday 27th March.   This fits in with our text "The Tiger in the Garden" and our science unit about animals.  I will send out a letter with details about this this week.

It is PE tomorrow, so if you could make sure they have their PE kits with them, that will be great.
