York - Day 2

Date: 5th May 2022 @ 8:51am

After a wonderful breakfast of sausages, bacon, eggs, beans and pancakes, we journeyed into York and made our way to the Jorvik Dig, where we had a go about being archaeologists.  After emptying the sand out of our shoes, we met Ake the Viking who showed us a range of Viking weapons and taught us how to use them effectively.  Be warned, they are now all fully trained warriors!

Our next stop was the Jorvik Centre where we learnt about the excavation of the street and how the ride was modelled on these findings.  Whilst we all had our favourite part of the ride, we all agreed the smell was not appealing!  After this exciting and insightful tour, it was time for the highlight of the trip – a visit to the gift shop!  We look forward to showing you our purchases tomorrow!

There was time for a quick trip to the Railway Museum playground before heading back to the Minster for Evensong.  The children were in awe and behaved incredibly respectfully; severely members of the congregation and staff commended the children on their behaviour.

It was a brisk walk back the racecourse and we were all ready for a delicious dinner before an early night (well earlier than last night!).  We are looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow!
