Year 6 w/b 9/10/17

Date: 7th Oct 2017 @ 9:06pm

We have been so busy over the last few weeks in Year 6.

Bikeability was successful again this year and everyone had fun improving their skills. Our swimming sessions are also going well and all children are improving and perfecting their technique. Last week our sports leaders started their lunchtime clubs. Mr Jones will be overseeing them this week to offer support where needed, but it is lovely to see the children so motivated and enthusiastic.

We have been focusing on multiplication in maths before we begin division next week. Everyone is now confident with long multiplication, but applying this knowledge to missing number problems was a little trickier. We will continue to work on this in school, but any additional practice at home would be worthwhile.

Last week children wrote their own versions of the modern fairytale 'The Princesses' Blankets'. I have enjoyed reading them all and I'm pleased to say that they were of a high standard. The children used a good amount of detail and really thought about the features they included. Next week we will begin work on our non-fiction unit.

Since the beginning of term our spellings have been linked to common errors children are making in their writing. The spelling test scores have been high each week, but in order for children to embed these spelling rules, please continue to revisit them at home as we will in school.

Finally, in topic, Year 6 have been learning about the Spanish Armada and have very much enjoyed making their own ships to sail. We are hoping to be able to do so on Monday afternoon.

I look forward to seeing you all at parents' consultations,
