Year 5 w/b 11th March

Date: 17th Mar 2024 @ 12:31pm

This week Y5 have completed reading and maths assessments alongside their other lessons. Mrs Field and I are delighted to see some of the progress made and look forward to sharing these updates with you at parents consultations. For those absent last week, we will do our best to complete these with children tomorrow.

This week with Mr Aspinal we looked at the importance of kindness. We considered how our words can have a positive or negative effect on others and the fact that we don't always know what people might be going through, We also considered that whilst apologising is important, it doesn't take away what we have done - making it all the more important to show kindness.

In PE we focussed on fielding skills: underarm and overarm throwing and creating a long barrier. We then recapped and practised overarm bowling and practised bowling against a batter. Finally, we put all these skills into action in a match.

In RE we found the Easter story in the Gospels and talked about the similarities and differences to a video we watched. Children then considered the most important and symbolic aspects for the Christian faith.

In Forest School we developed hammering skills as children designed a cross and hammered nails into a plank before winding wool around the pegs to create their design.

In maths children have completed assessments and continued their work on perimeter and area.

In music we have taken the opportunity to have a final practice of the Singfest Concert; we also became part of the audience for this week's RockSteady concert and it was lovely to share the success of many children in our class.

There will be no homework next week due to the residential visit. Please can we ask that all forms are completed and returned to school by Monday at the latest. We also have our Singfest Concert on Tuesday. Children will need a packed lunch (or can order as school packed lunch tomorrow). They should wear their school uniform and bring a coat. We will leave school at 9:20am. Our concert begins at 12:15 and we look forward to seeing some of you there. If you have not already confirmed that you will be taking children home after the concert, please email me in advance ([email protected]).
