Year 3 WB: 27.11.17

Date: 4th Dec 2017 @ 6:27pm

This week in Maths we have been learning how to multiply and divide by 4 and 8. Reciting our times tables at the beginning of our Maths lessons has really helped us to solve the problems that we have been given. We have also used the bar model and arrays to help us with division and multiplication problems. Every Friday as part of our Maths starter we now complete times table challenges. The children were very eager to beat their scores from the previous week and if you would like to practise these at home, copies of them are available on a separate blog on the Year 3 page.

In English this week we have invented our own portal stories revolving around Egypt. The children had some fantastic ideas and used all of their knowldege about Ancient Egypt to help them to write their stories. For example some of their characters fell asleep in their lessons and woke up in Ancient Egypt! Another idea was that characters were on holiday in modern Egypt and got transported back to Ancient Egypt where they were made to become slaves for the Pharaohs!

During Science this week we started our new topic of 'Forces and Magnets'. In order to investigate different types of pushes and pulls we visited the park as part of our lesson. The children tested the different pieces of equipment in the park and wrote their findings on a clipboard. When we got back to the classroom they chose pictures of the equipment they tested and wrote an explanation of how it worked and the force acting on it. Here are some pictures of us at the park!
