Year 3 w.b 22nd November

Date: 28th Nov 2021 @ 8:50pm

We have had a great fortnight in Year 3!  Many thanks for your support with daily reading and weekly homework. I have set up a reward system for children who are playing on Rockstars daily too! Please practise 3s, 4s and 8s (as well as recapping and ensuring children can rapidly recall 2s, 5s and 10s).  Our school trip to the National Waterways Museum will be on Tuesday, where we will be finding out more about the industrial revolution and canals. I’m sure it will be a fantastic trip!

Maths

Over the past two weeks, we have been focusing on the 3, 4 and 8 times tables, learning how to multiply and divide them. While I have been giving children methods such as using arrays and a number line to support them, practising these times tables so they can rapidly recall them would be extremely beneficial (on TT Rockstars- Jammin’ mode).

English

We have been planning and writing a return story over the past fortnight! I have been very proud of the children’s efforts as they have used lots of the features and language that we have been focusing on over the half term. Next week our new focus is letter writing!

We have just finished our Ice Palace story in guided reading. We will focus on the ending of the story in our questions next week before moving on to non-fiction texts and poetry.

Other areas of the curriculum

This week in Science, we have been learning about how mirrors work by experimenting with them. Last week we learnt about which surfaces are reflective using torches to experiment! We found out that smooth, flat and shiny surfaces are the most reflective.

In Forest School, we have been working on our team building and problem solving skills. In RE, we have been learning about Communion in church and the story of the Last Supper, comparing different branches of Christianity.

In History, we learned about inventions of the industrial revolution. In DT with Mrs T this week, the children have continued to work on their pneumatic toy designs! In PE, we have been working on passing attacking and defending. Next week, we will move onto shooting and all of the features together in a game.
