Year 3 w.b 11th September

Date: 15th Sep 2023 @ 6:13pm

We have had a super first full week in Year 3! Thank you for your support with homework and with reading. Children have now completed an accelerated reader test and have a new level in their planners. We encourage children to change books as and when needed in Year 3, which is a little bit of a change from Year 2, as it gives them more independence. If you are finding they aren’t bringing home the right level of books, please let us know so we can oversee which books they choose while they are getting used to this.

Maths

This week we have been counting in 100s, as well as understanding place value up to 1000. We have been using base ten and other visual representations to understand how many hundreds, tens and ones are in each number.

English

We have enjoyed recapping on apostrophes and commas from Year 2. We have also been writing sentences with expanded nouns and enjoying delving into our new model text- a setting description about a river- we have been looking at its features with a view to writing our own setting description soon.

Spelling

We have begun to look at our new rule- le words. Spellings have been sent home and we will test these next week.

Music

We had a fabulous music session this week with Mrs Landon- we enjoyed learning about our new instruments and learned how to put them together, before playing our first notes! Letters will go out next week- please sign and return them so that the children can take them home soon.

Science

In Science this week, we looked at friction- we enjoyed experimenting with toy cars to see how the surface affected their speed!

Spanish

In Spanish this week we learned how to greet others and how to ask someone how they are, as well as replying! Finally, we learned how to say good bye.

History

In history, we learned about the industrial revolution and all of the amazing inventions that were created at this time, such as the canal system and trains!

PE and forest school

We had a fantastic session in forest school- lots of fun with friends and a few of us made a canal system!

In PE we recapped on chest and bounce passes before moving onto footwork for netball and pivoting.

Have a lovely weekend
