Year 3 blog w.b. 20th November

What an amazing week we’ve had in Year 3!

In English, we wrote our journey narratives and wow what amazing stories they were.  We used really descriptive and effective vocabulary and used some of the hints and tips from our writer’s toolkit to blow our teachers socks off!

In Maths, we began to think about multiples of 5 and 10, we had to fill in the correct missing numbers in a sequence and reflected by thinking if we could tell if a number was a multiple of 5 by looking at one of the digits.  We then began to look at division and sharing by 3, we learnt a little song to help us with our 3 times tables which helped us work out the divisions.

We had such fun during our football lesson today. We started off by playing Ghostbusters, some of us were ghosts and had to dribble the ball around whilst others were the Ghostbusters and had to try and win the ball. We then practised mirroring our partner and trying to tackle each other. We had to use the side of our foot to pass the ball and the top of our foot to stop the ball whilst we passed to each other.  We finished our lesson by practising shooting the ball into the goal, we split into two teams and used the side of our foot to shoot.

During our My Happy Mind session today, we thought about our character strengths and how we can use them even more to help each other. We thought about what we would do if we were faced with difficult or new situations and how we would approach it. We then played a guessing game and acted out our character strengths. It was fun trying to guess each other’s strengths.

In RE, we discussed how we prepare for a new baby or a special visitor. We said we would need baby milk, nappies, warm clothes, a cot and toys, however we thought the most important thing a baby would need is love. We then thought carefully about how we would prepare for Jesus - by trusting God, listening to God, waiting, worshipping and keeping Him safe. We watched a video of The Very First Christmas and discussed who visited the new baby.  Mrs Wood then showed us five other names people use for Jesus - Prince of Peace, Saviour of the world, King of Kings, Jesus Son of God and Emmanuel. As a group we discussed which name we thought was the most important and which name we use for Jesus.  We finished off our afternoon by playing a wonderful 'Guess Who' game, one person had a post it note on their forehead whilst the rest of us asked them questions, they then we had to guess who they were

In our No Outsiders lesson, we learned to be welcoming. We made a list of ways that someone may be made to feel like an outsider and discussed how Beegu felt like an outsider in the story. We then played the ‘welcoming game’ and then made a positive list of ways we can make everyone feel welcome so that no one feels like an outsider.

In Spanish, we recapped on colours and numbers, we then continued by learning some new animal vocabulary.  We are becoming more and more confident reading and saying words in Spanish.

In Art, we had great fun ‘Painting with scissors’ just like Matisse.  Henri Matisse was born on 31st December 1869, and died in 1954. He was 84.  He was a draughtsman, printmaker, and sculptor, but is best known as a painter.  Matisse also started to create large scale cut paper collages. He called the technique ‘painting with scissors’.  We had several sheets of coloured paper and tried to be like Matisse and took a risk and just cut shapes without drawing them first.  We were very proud of them!

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and we’ll hopefully see you all at the Christmas fayre this evening.
