Year 3 blog 22.9.23

Date: 22nd Sep 2023 @ 7:08pm

We have had a very active week in Year 3! The children have loved swimming each day and the teachers are very pleased with their progress so far!

Thank you again for your support with homework and with reading, as well as ensuring they are ready for swimming each day!

Maths

This week we have been using number lines to understand place value up to 1000- this has been tricky but Year 3 have risen well to the challenge. We have continued to use base ten and other visual representations to understand how many hundreds, tens and ones are in each number.

English

We have been continuing to look at the uses of apostrophes and commas. We have also been writing sentences using similes and exploring our model text- a setting description about a river. We have now planned our own setting description and look forward to writing this on Monday!

Spelling

We have completed our le rule this week, finishing this with a spelling test. We will start our next rule on Monday

Music

We had another exciting music session this week with Mrs Landon. We learned about rhythm and beat, before learning to play our first note on our instrument! We then practised playing along to a song! I was very impressed with how quickly they all picked it up!

Art

In art today, we practised mixing colours, shades and tones with increased confidence. We looked at primary, secondary, tertiary and complementary colours.

Computing

We learned how a computer network sends information, including the internet. We discussed different types of files and looked at how traffic lights, shop check outs and other networks work.

Spanish

In Spanish this week we recapped how to greet others and how to ask someone how they are, as well as replying! We then learned how to ask someone what their name is and how to say ‘My name is…’

History

In history, we enjoyed learning more about the industrial revolution and all of the amazing inventions that were created at this time!

PE and forest school

We had another marvellous session in forest school- lots of imaginative games with friends and some of us enjoyed building boats with sticks!

In PE we practised passing and how to control the ball with different parts of our feet. We then passed through ‘gates’ and then dribbled round the space, passing through different gates. It was wonderful to see the progression in the lesson.

Have a great weekend,
