Year 2 Week Beginning 18th September

Date: 23rd Sep 2017 @ 10:44am

In English, this week we have been innovating the text King Jack and the Dragon. We started this process by recapping the story and then building up a toolkit of the key features for an adventure story. The children came up with imaginative ideas which sparked their imagination for the adaptation of the story. As we worked our way through writing the story, it was lovely to see how so many children could follow the same structure of the story but include so many original ideas.

In Maths, we have continued our work on place value. We have been using place value charts to recognise the position of the number. The children are now confidently using resources to represent numbers to 100, which is great to see. Next week we will move onto counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s from 0.

In science, this week we have continued to explore healthy eating. The children took a variety of foods and were asked to place them in one of two categories; part of a balanced diet or treats that we should have every so often. The children were confident with this and it is great to see their understanding of foods to include in a healthy, balanced diet.

As part of our topic work this week we have been looking at the capital cities of the countries in the UK and including these onto the map that we looked at in last week’s lesson.

I hope you all have a good weekend and I look forward to seeing you on Monday morning.
