Year 2 w/b 8th May

Date: 12th May 2023 @ 11:32am

What a lot of learning we have done in Year Two this week!

This week in English we have written not just one, but two letters! What fantastic writers we have in Year Two!  On Monday, we reminded ourselves of the structural features of letters by exploring a variety of letters with a partner. As a class, we then used our findings to construct a 'Persuasive Letter Toolkit'. We decided to add some additional language features to our toolkit to make our letters outstanding! This formed our planning format to use later in the week. On Wednesday, we wrote up our letters to the King (The King Who Banned the Dark) to persuade him to get rid of the disastrous ban. I am so impressed with how persuasive these letters are!

On Thursday, we made a class plan to write our second letter to a King, but this time it was a letter to King Charles III. In our plans, we included: information to share about ourselves, comments and congratulations relating to the Coronation, exciting and important plans we would like him to do as King and any questions that we would like to ask. We will be finishing our special letters on Monday.

In Forest School this week, we have been working on our team building skills. This reminded us of the tremendous teamwork which was shown during Great Fire of London when putting out the fire. Mr Simmons was really impressed with these skills!

In maths this week, we have been focussing on our unit 'Time'. We have been:

  • Recapping learning about measuring time. We have been reading and describing times to the hour and the half hour.
  • Describing time using the vocabulary of ‘quarter past’ and ‘quarter to’ when reading an analogue clock.
  • Reading an analogue clock by learning to read the five-minute intervals.

Please can I ask you to continue practising o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past at home.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you next week to ‘show what we know’.
