Year 1 class blog w/b 18.9.17

Date: 24th Sep 2017 @ 10:48am

We have had a fantastic week in year 1! This week in phonics we have focussed on the i-e, igh and ie sounds. Many thanks for your help with spellings and reading at home.

We continued to look at place value in maths, focusing on one more and one less, problem solving and teen numbers. In English we thought of our own characters for our very own rescue story and wrote an innovated story.

In RE our focus has been on good news and we thought about what Jesus would think good news was on Monday afternoon. On Tuesday the children practised key skills with Mr Jones and worked on self-portraits with Mrs Taylor.

In science this week we looked at our senses and wrote a poem based on what we might see, hear, taste, touch and smell if we had wings and could fly. In topic we read the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and planted our very own beanstalks! We put them in different locations around the room and children made predictions on which ones would grow best based on conditions such as light and warmth. We will monitor these over the coming weeks and fill in our broad bean diaries to see how they grow!
