Y5 w/b 26th February

Date: 2nd Mar 2024 @ 9:27am

It was lovely to welcome the children back this week. There is lots to look forward to this half term.

In RE, we began our Easter unit. This week we thought about what a victory was, For example, could you come second, or last, and still be victorious? We looked at quotes from Nelson Mandela such as 'I never lose. I win or I learn.' and considered their meaning.

In English the children have been introduced to our new text, The Walk Between the Towers, which is about the highwire artist Philippe Petit. This week the children have been making predictions about what he did. Then they learnt some facts about the Twin Towers and used these write cohesive paragraphs.

In Maths we have been understanding what percentages are and how fractions, decimals and percentages are equivalent. The children have enjoyed learning about percentages and have homework to complete based on this work.

In geography we have started our China unit learning where China is in the world, what its bordering countries are and how the country is made up of provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions.

On Thursday we had our final Singfest rehearsal via Zoom. Tickets can be bought for our performance on Tuesday 19th March using the link on Class Dojo. We have had the great privilege of being asked to perform at a second Singfest concert. This will be in the morning before our own to support another school. There will be no changes to the arrangement for out concert and home time arrangements. However, we will now leave school after register and have our lunch at Congleton Town Hall.

The children also enjoyed their first Forest School session of this half term. Forest School sessions will continue every Friday morning this half term.

We have also spent time discussing and modelling expectations for behaviour with children as we prepare for Singfest, our residential visit, Rose Queen and the final term in Y5. Mrs McLean has also spoken to the children about our expectations and we will continue to work on this over the rest of half term.
