Welcome back!

Date: 12th Sep 2016 @ 2:04pm

We had a fantastic first week back at school in year 2. The holiday homework that came in was of a brilliant standard and we have enjoyed looking at all of your amazing ideas and art work. Can we just say a big thank you to parents for your help at home with this.

In literacy this week, we have focussed on speaking and listening and the children have enjoyed telling us about their holiday homework, what book it was from and how they made it. On Friday, we wrote all about our holiday and the children told us all about what they got up to over the holidays.

In maths we focussed on securing place value, which is a really important, fundamental area of the curriculum. We have been looking at the value of the digits in numbers and the fact that 57 for instance, isn't just a 5 and a 7... the 5 is worth 50, or 5 tens, while the 7 is just a 7, or 7 units.

We have started our topic this week by looking at the Royal Family and we also had a look at Capital cities in the UK. In PE we played football.

This week we will be starting our phonics and guided reading, but formal homework will not be coming home until next week. However, spellings will be sent home, ready to be tested this Friday. If you would like to do additional work at home, then focussing on numbers and place value would be a great starting point. As always we would encourage you to read as often to your child and listen to your child read at home, to help develop their reading skills and broaden their vocabulary.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
