Week ending 8th December

Date: 11th Dec 2017 @ 9:52am

Thank you for coming to year 5s class assembly on Friday. For 2 days rehearsal I think it went pretty well. Thanks also for providing the costumes and helping to make the children look very authentic. They all did a great job, special mention must be made of Holly and Nathan though, who played the strict teacher part beautifully.

Laat week saw us continuing with our maths topic - we have been working on aspects of multiplication and division including learning about prime numbers, factors, common factors, multiples, inverse, products and applying this knowldge to puzzles and problems.

In English the children continued with their fantastic standard of writing based on 'The Arrival' book. This week we will be completing our work by writing about an escape. The class have particularly enjoyed learning new vocabulary and incorporating it into their work.

Topic work continues on the theme of Victorians. The class has started gluing their work into their topic books to make a final piece of work. There has been some lovely homework on famous Victorians and we are gearing ourselves up to researching about and making a hat for a well-to-do Victorian lady in DT.

This week in spelling we are learning about words with c in them. Depending on the following vowel, the c sounds different - and not always like an s.

Science this week will be a piece of writing based on fair testing around our work on materials and their properties.

I would like to remind you that the upper key stage 2 Christmas party is next week - further details to follow - and don't forget the Candlelit Carol Service at Church on the 22nd December. Year 5 will be singing 'Ding Dong Merrily on High'.
