A Lovely First Week Back!

It has been wonderful to catch up with the children and hear all about their holidays. We now enter the final half term and we will be working hard to prepare the children for Year 1.

We have dived straight into our Literacy work this week by retelling 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' by Michael Rosen. We have sequenced the events of the story and we have planned our own 'We're Going on a... Hunt.' The children have included a range of animals and mythical creatures in their stories. Next week we will begin writing our stories.

In Maths we have been learning how to measure items using a ruler. Why not have a go at measuring items at home?

The children have had a great deal of fun playing in our new seaside role play area. They have also made some delicious ice creams! We hope to set up a ice cream farm role play area outside in the coming weeks. Let's hope the weather supports this notion! Miss Ashworth taught us all about seaside holidays in the past and we looked at similarities and differences between now and then.

On Friday we were joined by Year 2 and we learnt all about Brereton Hall, the Brereton family and the tale of the muzzled bear. On Monday we will be finding out more about the history of Brereton by walking up to St Oswald's church. Should you wish to join us we will be leaving school between 10am and 10:10am.

On Wednesday we travel to Trentham Gardens. I will send home a note on Monday explaining what children need and what they should wear on Monday. I am sure we will have a wonderful day!

Finally, we have been working hard on writing across the school. The attached photos show two of our new displays celebrating the pupils' writing. Well done Reception!
