Reception W/B 3rd October 2016

Date: 8th Oct 2016 @ 6:34pm

This week seems to have flown by!

On Tuesday we were very excited to discover we had a new addition to our class…Sunny the Meerkat!  Sunny had left the Kalahari Desert in search of a new home.  We worked in our Kagan groups to build Sunny a new den.  The children worked wonderfully well together!  We then proceeded to learn to tell the story ‘Meerkat Mail.’  We sequenced pictures from the story and wrote some fabulous labels for Sunny’s suitcase.

In Maths we have been investigating how to count objects.  We have practised putting items into rows as we count them and we learnt about the importance of checking – especially when we are counting large amounts.  Sunny also challenged us to find items that were taller or shorter than a meerkat.

In RE we have started our new topic, ‘God.’  On Monday we listened to the story ‘David and Goliath’ and the children commented on how brave David was because he knew God was with him.  On Friday we discovered a lost sheep hiding in the hall so we read the story of ‘The Lost Sheep’ and observed how God is like the shepherd looking after us all.

Thank you to all of those who walked to church with us on Friday.  I hope you enjoyed the service and our story in particular.  I thought the children were incredibly well behaved and very brave to stand up in front of so many people.  They did a marvellous job, I’m sure you are all very proud.  Thank you also for the kind donations for our local foodbank.  I am sure they will be gladly received.

Don’t forget next Friday is our class trip to Reaseheath.  The pupils will need an outdoor coat with a hood and a change of shoes in a carrier bag (these can be trainers or wellington boots).  If you haven’t ordered a school packed lunch can I request that lunch is brought in in a disposable bag rather than a lunch box, so we don’t risk leaving items behind.

Finally, we would like to welcome Miss Stewart and Miss Cuthbert to our class. They are PGCE students who will be working alongside myself and Miss Sherliker until January.  They have spent the week getting to know the children and we can't wait to work with them more.

Have a lovely weekend!
