Reception w/b 28th November

Date: 2nd Dec 2022 @ 4:52pm

We are so incredibly proud of each and every one of the children in Reception. It was a truly joyous experience to watch all of the children on the stage and observe the confidence, maturity and enthusiasm that they showed. What a wonderful achievement it is to have performed on the stage to an audience after not even a full term in school! I imagine that the children are now exhausted and more than ready for a restful weekend. Thank you ever so much for your wonderful support with costuming, learning of lines/songs (I’m sure many of you know the songs as well as we do!) and your encouragement and belief which no doubt helped the children to perform so beautifully. It is always such a special experience to retell the miracle that was the birth of Jesus, a truly precious gift to the world.

As I am sure that you can imagine, our week has been full of Nativity preparations! We have however still completed lots of other excellent learning. Phonics groups, individual reading and 1:1 handwriting sessions have continued and we continue to see super progress from all of the children. I am thoroughly looking forward to assessing everybody’s phonics (sound recognition/oral blending/word reading) next week.

In our English learning, we have once again been writing sentences, focusing on the use of finger spaces and full stops. This week, we have created ‘wanted’ posters to help us to catch the Evil Pea! We therefore learnt and wrote the red word ‘he’ to begin our sentences e.g. ‘He has a red cape and a black mask.’ The use of phonics in these sentences was excellent. Look out for these posters around school next week!

In our maths learning this week, we began to explore composition by focusing on the preliminary skills: the concept of ‘wholes’ and ‘parts’. By investigating our own bodies and familiar toys the children have started to understand that whole things are often made up of smaller parts and that a whole is, therefore, bigger than its parts.

Continuing to get into the festive spirit, our Forest School session was inspired by Julia Donaldson’s ‘Stickman’. Using twine, the children tied the sticks together in a variety of ways to create a range of unique stick men!

Reception, you should all be so very proud of yourselves. Enjoy a wonderful weekend and I shall look forward to lots of fantastic festive-themed learning next week! I wonder which book Elvie the elf will bring on Monday? I wonder what his daily challenge will be?

With huge thanks for your wonderful support,

Miss Witham
