Reception W.B 12.03.18

Date: 16th Mar 2018 @ 4:11pm

Happy Friday everyone!

This week we’ve been focusing on money in maths and what a challenge it has been! We were able to distinguish which coin was which but when it came to buying things in our space shop, we found there were items priced at 3p, 6p and 9p - what do we do now? It all got a little confusing trying to figure out which coins we needed. We’re going to extend these lessons into next week to ensure we really understand how to make values using different coins. Perhaps this weekend you could play shopkeepers?

In literacy we invented our own stories based upon “How to catch a star” in which we changed to main character and the object of their affection. We had a ‘pretty queen who loved rings’, a ‘unicorn that loved princesses’ and a ‘knight that loved bats’. Our writing is continuing to improve and some children are being challenged to work completely independently without any adult supervision - wow!

On Thursday we had an ‘out of this world’ trip to Spaceport and what a fantastic trip it was! We learnt all about the different planets and our solar system and a particular highlight was the simulator and space dome show! The children were exceptionally behaved and we were very proud of each and every one of them! And a special thanks to our parent helpers as well - we couldn’t have managed without you.

Mrs Taylor bought a special surprise from Spaceport and it fit perfectly with our topic afternoons. We’ve been researching astronauts and how they go about their daily lives in space. Did you know that astronauts are referred to as ‘sailors of the stars’? We found out that food in space is a little different to ours and everything is freeze dried! We were lucky enough to taste Mrs Taylor’s treat and sampled some chocolate chip ice cream and bananas - it was definitely mixed reviews.

 A reminder for next week:

Our Easter church service will be held on Friday 23rd March at 2pm in which the whole school are contributing a song or poem. All are welcome and if you wish to walk down with us please arrive at school by 1.15pm.

Have a wonderful weekend and we shall see you Monday!

Miss Sherliker, Mrs Taylor and Mrs Payne.
