Reception Chester Zoo visit

Date: 27th Nov 2022 @ 4:38pm

Wow, what a wonderful trip we all enjoyed! During their very first school trip, Reception represented our school beautifully and were polite, engaged and enthused at every turn. We were very grateful to have such superb role models in Year 6 who treated all of the children with such kindness, patience and respect; it was so lovely to listen to the conversations between all of the children.

It was truly magical to observe such awe and wonder amongst the children as we journeyed around the zoo. Our first stop was the chimpanzees and, whilst the adult chimpanzees were snoozing away, we were just thrilled to see the younger chimpanzees swinging around the enclosure. Much laughter ensued! Next, we visited the giraffes. It was simply amazing to take in their sheer size and grace and we just loved seeing them gallop across their outdoor area. We concluded that they were having a good game of chase and were enjoying teasing each other. The newest arrival, Stanley, was ever so sweet although, as the children noted, still much taller than any human we know! Luckily, we also caught several glimpses of the notoriously shy okapi as we were very quiet and still. Our last stops before lunch were the realm of the Red Ape to see the orangutans and the Jaguar House to see the sloth and magnificent jaguar who we had managed to spot as she was eating her own lunch.

After enjoying a delicious packed lunch, we were very excited to visit the penguins. Unfortunately, it seems it was too cold for the lions to come out to see us but we were most delighted to see the camels, reminding us of our Nativity preparations. As ever, the elephants were simply magnificent and we just loved observing the interactions between this famous Chester Zoo family before making our final stop at the monkey house.

After such a lot of walking and excitement, we had lots of sleepy children on our coach journey home. I have no doubt that there were many early nights on Tuesday, for children and adults alike! So many happy memories were made and the children were just a pleasure to take around the zoo. This trip inspired some beautiful writing and artwork during the remainder of the week and will certainly be a memorable Brereton experience for all.
