A Wonderful Wintery Week...

This week we went off in search for our missing penguin.  Miss Goff's friend Tom, who works on a ship in the Antarctic, emailed on Monday asking if we had received the penguin he had sent.  When he heard we hadn't he suggested the penguin might be close by but too scared to come in so we set off to look for clues.  Outside we found snow, footprints, feathers and fish so we quickly set about constructing traps to catch him.  Sooner rather than later we found him! The smell of fish obviously enticed him in!  Percy the Penguin will be coming home each day with our Star of the Day.  Please ensure he returns back to school the following day so all the children can have a turn.

In Literacy this week we have started to learn a non-chronological report about polar bears.  The children have loved finding out more about these incredible creatures.  We will continue with this next week...keep an eye out for videos!

In Maths we have been learning about addition.  We have been using Numicon and Duplo to help us solve sums and some of us even progressed to looking at word problems.

RE this week was particularly special as the children shared their special objects with us.  It was lovely to see the children's pride as they explained to the class why their objects were special to them.  Thank you for your help in making this lesson so lovely!

Our science experiment didn't quite go to plan this week (as can happen in Science!).  We attempted to make ice grow using ice cubes and very cold water.  Whilst we did eventually see some change it wasn't quite as good as Miss Goff had expected, but we discussed why it might not have worked as well as we had hoped.  Hopefully next weeks experiment will be more successful!

This week we have welcomed Miss Nolan to our class.  Miss Nolan is a second year student from MMU and she will be working with us up until Easter, supporting groups and delivering some lessons alongside myself.  She already has lots of exciting ideas up her sleeve!

Thank you for your ongoing support.
