Our first strings lesson

Date: 13th Jan 2023 @ 4:55pm

We welcomed Mrs McAree to class this week. She will be with us in the months to come to support the children with their learning. A very experienced practitioner, we feel very lucky to have her.

We began the week consoidering Jesus as a shield and indeed, if we were shields ourselves, who would we protect.

This week, we have been working particularly hard on sentence accuracy. Mrs Tice's 'non-negotiables' are:

  1. Capital letter at the beginning of the sentence
  2. Full stop at the end
  3. Does the sentence make sense on its own?

Our vehicle text, The Journey, has given us plenty of inspiration to begin our story.

In Maths, we have been considering what happens to digits if we make them 10 times larger. The children have been moving their counters and digits one column to the left on a Place Value Grid and then putting in that all-important place holder. As the week progressed we them multiplied numbers by 100, moving digits two columns to the left. Through next week, we will be looking at methods to work out 13 x 8, and other such problems.

Today, Year 4 finally got their hands on their instruments and made a stirling start. Everyone learnt how to hold the instrument and then how to pluck the correct string to a beat. It was very impressive. Next week, we will continue to make a clear accurate sound, leaving the bow for a few weeks until their knowledge is secure.

In all the excitement, I completely forgot to take more photos. Thankfully, Mrs Wood was on hand to take this one. More to follow next week.

Wishing everyone a peaceful weekend.
