Money Maths

Date: 28th Apr 2023 @ 10:48am

This week, we have been focussing on the key life skill of money. This unit looks at how to write money in pence or in pounds and pence and how to convert between the two. In this age of contactless, it is now more vital than ever for children to familiarise themselves with each coin and also sales techniques like the 99p pricing. I must admit, I am susceptible to buying items priced £29.99 thinking it's only about £20. But most of the children realised this really wasn't the case!

This leads us onto estimating a cost when totalling money together- another skill we will be practising next week. Finally, we will be bringing these skills to life with some realistic word problems.

If you are shopping this weekend, either online or out and about, why not draw your child's attention to how it is written? Challenge them to add up how much the eggs and the milk would be and, if you happen to have change in your pocket, see if they can choose the right coins to pay for it.
