British Science Week

Date: 13th Mar 2020 @ 4:12pm

This week we have been celebrating British Science Week with a number of different but fun experiments and activities throughout the school.

The pictures from Reception and Key Stage 2 below tell their own story but in summary:

Reception found out how to make and decorating a paper-chain family to show how different people look even in the same family.

Year 3 have been researching facts about the Antarctic to recognise the 200th anniversary of the very first sighting of this magnificent continent.

Year 4 were building on their knowledge of states of matter by observing how hot water vapour melts chocolate, then how cool air solidifies it again - definitely a tasty experiment!

Year 5 looked at forces and materials by building a hover balloon using an old compact disc and a bottle cap.

Year 6 discovered who in their class were classed as 'Supertasters' - a term for people with a larger than average number of fungiform papillae (tastebuds, to you and me!).

I hope that the children have been talking about the theories behind the experiments and be sure to look out next term for some interesting scientific challenges that can be done at home.
