Year 4 The Lowry
Lesson: Art and design
Class: Year 4 Year: 2015 - 2016
Today Year 4 visited The Lowry.
We learnt about what he was like as an artist such as how he was also a rent collector. His favourite food was fish and chips, he supported Manchester City and he was born in 1887 when life was very different to what we know today. Lowry was a big fan of the artist, Van Gogh as he liked to draw what he could see. This inspired Lowry in his own artwork.
We learnt that Lowry used just 5 colours in his artwork and he enjoyed painting seascapes, landscapes and portraits.
In the morning, we explored the art gallery and we got close up to some original Lowry pieces of art worth millions of pounds! All the time, we were walking with our clipboard, pencil and piece of graphite, ready to draw and sketch at every possible moment. One of the portraits was a self portrait of Lowry, and Paul, our artist and guide, taught us step by step how to replicate it.
This afternoon we designed a 3D model and then used Model Magic (a type of modelling clay) to create it.
