History detectives visit Nantwich Museum
Lesson: History
Class: Year 2 Year: 2015 - 2016
Year 2 have enjoyed a wonderful day as history detectives in Nantwich. We were amazed how much wood was used in 'Stuart' times, not just in the buildings but for cutlery, plates , trenchers and even water pipes! We ended up with very black hands after using the quills and ink but Mrs Pullé was amazed by our beautiful handwriting . Trying on the fashion from the 1600s was very popular but the wooden clogs just looked painful to wear!
Barry led us around Nantwich where we discovered the similarities and differences between the 'Nantwich Great Fire' of 1583 and 'The Great Fire of London' in 1666. Thank goodness for the Church which was a refuge for so many people who had lost their homes. We were interested to discover how many timber framed houses had been rebuilt after the fire and were delighted to learn Queen Elizabeth sent £1000 to help Nantwich be rebuilt.
Finally, we designed our own Stuart styled houses in pairs. Great team work everyone.
Thank you to the Nantwich museum volunteers for a thoroughly fascinating day, to our lovely parents for joining in with the day so enthusiastically and to you, year 2 for making us so proud. You listened, participated , asked and answered thoughtful questions and willingly engaged with all tasks. Well done- definitely a rainbow day !
