Break and Lunchtime Equipment
The school council have recently discussed how they would like to improve break times and lunchtimes. They decided that they would like more games and a range of equipment to use.
Last year, the staff and children did lots of research into how various schools tackled break times and lunchtimes to improve this part of the day. In the past, both the school and the PTA have purchased specialist equipment solely for this purpose but the children commented that it wasn’t looked after and at the end of play times, it would be left out on the playground. This resulted in equipment being lost or broken.
In order for the children to take more responsibility for the equipment, the school is going to adopt a signing in/out approach with children also paying a token amount of two pence per item. This will encourage the children to take more responsibility for their equipment and ensure that items are returned. There will be a range of activities on offer for the children, which include:
skipping ropes
bean bags
books
colouring books/pencils
cones
balls
tennis rackets
In addition to this, the sports coaches will also run a football club for Key Stage 2 every Wednesday lunchtime and a Sports4All Key Stage 2 lunchtime club on Thursday lunchtimes, both of which are free of charge. The children will be able to play football at break times and lunch times if they have a member of staff to supervise their game. Due to the high number of accidents and disagreements we cannot allow pupils to play football without specific supervision.
We also offer the chance for children to take part in the Golden Mile on Monday and Friday break times where children can complete laps of the playground which add up over the year to achieve certificates. This will continue to be run by Year 6 pupils.
