Year One - Week Commencing 9th March 2020
Date: 14th Mar 2020 @ 10:42am
Before I tell you about the exciting things we've been doing this week in Year One, can I please draw your attention to the school newsletter which includes an update on school guidance about Corona Virus?
In the event of any of the children being off school this week, I have uploaded work on this page that will consolidate their learning for Maths and English.
We started the week by looking for ideas about how to make our stories more interesting for the reader. We looked at alliteration, repeated words, words to order a story and the power of 3 in sentences (using 3 adjectives with a comma). We found this in our Tiger in the Garden text and also in Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers. We enjoyed innovating the story using our story maps and have our new characters ready for writing the story next week.
In maths, we continued to count to 50 using a variety of methods, including addition and subtraction. Towards the end of the week, we started an introduction to height and width.
Science involved work on the classification of animals. We looked at fish and amphibians this time. We now have a lovely wall display with our art work. We learned about Henri Rousseau and how he used his imagination to paint jungle scenes. These look great!
The children are all enjoying geography. This week we have learned about the climate in Africa and planned what we would take with us if we were going to visit. We also discovered African animals and decided which was our favourite. We even heard the sounds that the animals made!
Have a great weekend.
