Year One - Week commencing 7th October 2019
Date: 11th Oct 2019 @ 11:17pm
Year One have had such an exciting week!
I'd like to thank you all for your support with the Stay and Make. It was such a successful session with some amazing creations! I'll post photographs on here as soon as possible. Thanks also to parents who came with us today to "Knitted Bible" at St Oswalds. The knitted characters in bible scenes were fantastic. I'm sure a lot of hard work went into them. The children loved identifying the correct bible stories and particularly loved Noah's Ark. The weather was very kind to us.
In maths, we have continued with the part part whole model and have been becoming more familiar with plus and equals signs. I am going to set MyMaths homework every Monday from now on.
English has been great this week. The children wrote their traditional fairy tale where a 'baddie' traps a 'goodie', leading to a dramatic escape! They were so creative! Some parents saw their idea's in action during the open morning. Now we have started looking at non-fiction and we are currently gathering ideas about how to trap a troll! The children spent their lunchtime and playtimes finding troll footprints!
In phonics this week, we have focussed on the sounds "ew" and "ay" so the homework involves practising these. This will continue to be given on a Friday. Due to such a busy week, most children changed their books today but I will ensure that they change them again on Monday in case any were missed.
Children made their own sequences in PE, using curling, narrow and wide movements. In Science, we carried out an experiment where we tested materials to see whether they were waterproof.
We spent some time looking at the school prayer this week so that we really know what it means.
I have sent a letter home about the village walk which will be on Thursday 17th October at 2pm.
Have a great weekend.
Mrs Baddeley
