Year One - Week commencing 7th January 2020
Date: 11th Jan 2020 @ 6:27pm
Happy New Year to you all! Thank you so much for the thoughtful Christmas cards and gifts. I hope you all had a lovely break.
The staff team enjoyed a Church Service at Chester Cathedral on Monday. It was good to get together with other schools within the Academy Trust. Children from each school joined us on video singing 'Shine Jesus Shine'.
We have got straight into our work and we continued with 2D and 3D shapes in maths. The text we're focussing on this half term is Hermelin, the mouse detective. We idenified that the owner of the suitcase left in year one must be a detective mouse by looking at the items inside. We have named this objects and done further work on nouns and adjectives. We predicted what the story was going to be about. We then looked at adding a prefix -un to words e.g. from happy to unhappy and came up with some great sentences.
Hermelin discover's he's a pest in the book so we have been drawing close up insects in art. We looked at the season changing from Autumn to Winter in Science. As Hermelin is a hero, we have started our history by exploring what makes a hero and introduced the name Florence Nightingale. We all drew a picture of what a nurse looks like today and discussed what nurses do.
You can see the topic web and optional homework on the Year One page on the website.
We are looking forward to PE on Monday so can you please make sure all children have their PE kits. Our class worship at church is on Thursday 16th January so if you can help by walking with us, could you let the office know as soon as possible?
Children came home on Friday with spellings homework. I will remind them to give this in on Monday.
Have a great weekend.
