Year One - Week commencing 27th January 2020
Date: 31st Jan 2020 @ 10:53pm
We had a great day today! We bounced off and on all day in our sponsored Bouncathon. I'm sure we've raised a good amount of money for much needed support for Australia. We discussed raising money for charity in PSHE and looked at the purposes of charities and their logo's.
We completed our detective stories this week and have done some work on proper nouns, new vocabulary and illiteration ready for writing our letters from residents of Offley Street (from the Hermelin book) next week. The children made paper aeroplanes in DT, just as Hermelin does to send an urgent message. We tested them out to see how well they could fly in the classroom!
In maths, we have spent the week using a different method of counting within 20 with the help of beadstrings and tenframes. We started on subtraction today.
The children have brought home some spellings today and also a small sheet where they tick whether the word they are reading is a real word or an alien word. We will usually be doing these in the final phonics lesson each week as a summary of the sounds we've learned but may sometimes send it home.
The children became involved in some drama this week in their history lesson. They had the roles of Florence Nightingale, a Doctor, a Prime Minister and a patient. Florence had to try to persuade the Doctor to let women work to improve the conditions in hospitals and she asked the Prime Minister for money to do this. It was great fun.
Can I please ask that children do not bring toys in to school unless it's their birthday? They could easily get lost and it causes a distraction in class. Can i also ask that they only bring in items to show and tell if it's an item from the optional homework? They are more than welcome to show me anything they do at home but we don't always have time to involve the whole class.
Have a great weekend
