Year One - Week Commencing 21st October 2019
Date: 28th Oct 2019 @ 8:25am
What a busy week in Year One! Thank you to all parents for attending the parent's consultations this week.
Our pumpkin activities on Friday were thoroughly enjoyable thanks to the Ethos Council and the Traditional Fairy Tale costumes the children were dressed in on Thursday were lovely and imaginative too.
We have completed 'materials' in science this week, although we till continue to touch on this throughout the year. The children thought about how they could make curtains, beds and bookshelves to show the knowledge they have.
In English, we continued to write instructions to catch a variety of creatures.....witches, pigs, unicorns, tigers and even a baby! Children could demonstrate that they need a title, a list of the things they need and then need to write what to do with time words e.g. first, next, now, after that. Their ideas were great. We looked at the sounds ie, i_e and igh in phonics.
In maths, we are continuing with addition to 10. This will continue after half term.
PSHE has now moved to 'Connecting People' and we spent the lesson this week making a family circle which most children chose to bring home.
We concluded our topic on Houses and Homes with a lesson on Fire Safety in the Home. Children said that during this half term they had learned that fires are real, about the Great Fire of London, about human and natural features and also about different sorts of houses.
I am on a training day on Monday 4th November but will see you all on Tuesday 5th.
I didn't set any homework for half term so have a good rest and a great holiday.
