Year One - Week Commencing 20th January 2020
Date: 25th Jan 2020 @ 5:24pm
In literacy this week, we've really got to grips with writing our own detective story. We innovated Hermelin the detective mouse story and changed it to our own characters and settings. We had everything from detective dogs, horses, mermaids and unicorns! The detective lived in the attic, lounge and some underwater. The children's imaginations were amazing and they have already produced some great writing.
We have spent time in maths really starting to understand the value of tens and ones when adding numbers to twenty.
A special visitor arrived in class this week. Miss Street (Claudia's mum) came in to talk about nursing as part of our Florence Nightingale lessons and all children had the opportunity to put bandages on each other and to have a look at an oxygen monitor, thermometer and stethoscopes.
In science, we went on a minibeast hunt in the playground where we predicted how many we would find then produced a tally chart.
In phonics, Mrs Warren's group learned spelling rules 'ff' and 'll'. Miss Sherlickers group learned 'are' and 'ir'. My group revisited 'oi' and 'oy'. Each child should have come home with spelling sheets for the relevant sounds. I assessed most children's reading this week. You will see a message in their reading diaries if they have changed reading levels. In handwriting, we have been practising capital letters so all children had those to practice at home too.
Have a great weekend.
