Year One - Week commencing 11th November
Date: 17th Nov 2019 @ 1:56pm
It was anti-bullying week last week which fits in nicely with our school value we are thinking about this half term---friendship. The children decided that if they smile at people when they look sad, this would be a positive thing to do in school.
We continued English, focussing on Beegu. Children described objects to make a 'Welcome to Earth' sheet, thought about how Beegu felt in a busy city...what she could see, hear and feel....and then they wrote a postcard to her parents, pretending they were Beegu. Beegu even visited St Oswalds and got up to some mischief. Science tied in well with this and focussed on the sense of sight. We carried out experiments about what we could see and what we could do if we couldn't see!
In PE, we have started to play ball games, begininng with passing and bouncing to our partners.
In maths, we have now started subtraction within 10.
For English homework this week, children brought home the story map and text of Beegu to learn. There is also a maths game on MyMaths for children to practise their number bonds this week.
All children now have the correct reading book following their reading assessments using ReadWrite Inc. The colours bear no resemblance to the old reading scheme at all.
Optional homework challenges for this half term can now be found on the class page on the website.
