Year One - Week Commencing 13th January 2020
Date: 19th Jan 2020 @ 8:33pm
Year One had a lovely class service at St Oswalds this week. Thank you to the parents who walked with us. Reverend Sandi told us about baptism and gave us a demonstration using helpers from the class. The children thoroughly enjoyed it.
Maths lessons are developing our knowledge of counting a little further to count to 20. We have been practicing counting in two's and using ten frames to help our understanding. English has been more work on Hermelin. We have answered questions about the book to show our understanding, learned writing tips and we have learned actions to the story. Thank you for reading this with your children at home. This has helped them to immerse themselves in the story in preparation for writing their own.
In RE we started the parable of the mustard seed. We talked about what we would like our Kingdom to be like if we were the King or Queen.
In PE, we started to work on a minibeast dance, in line with our minibeast work in science. We learned about the life cycle of a butterfly.
The children appeared to be very interested in our work on Florence Nightingale. We looked at why we need to remember her and the work she did to make hospitals clean and hygienic. Finally, in PHSE, we compared our life to that of a child in Brazil and drew pictures to show the similarities and differences.
Great news! Mrs Warren starts with us tomorrow. She will assist in year one every morning. We're looking forward to her joining the team.
All children came home with phonics/spelling homework this week. This should be given in on a Monday. We are now revisiting all of our phonics sounds.
Can I remind everyone to name all items of clothing/shoes please? Also, I remind children to take their water bottles home to be washed each evening, could they please bring them back in each morning?
Thanks,
Mrs Baddeley
