Year 6 w/b 18.11.19
Date: 23rd Nov 2019 @ 7:36pm
It has been another busy week in Year 6. A highlight, of course, was the stay and make session on Wednesday. Thank you so much for all your support - it was lovely to see so many of you there. A special thanks again to our ‘experts’ in the room particularly Mr Stockton. I hope the children are pleased with their finished models.
in English we have been continuing our work on ‘The Arrival’. Our focus has been on active and passive sentences and their effect on the reader. Please look out for examples when reading with children. This will lead into children writing their own ‘Arrival’ story.
In maths we have continued our work on adding and subtracting fractions as well as moving onto multiplying. We will continue with this next week before moving on to dividing fractions. We now start each maths lesson with some timed arithmetic questions to help improve fluency. The children are already seeing their speed and accuracy improve.
In topic we are continuing our work on the Holocaust. We will also be looking at what happened to those who managed to escape which will lead into our work after Christmas on refugees. With this in mind Year 6 will be supporting Save the Children as their class charity this year and have started looking at their work with Syrian refugees. We would like to begin our fundraising efforts by running a sweet lucky dip stall at the Christmas Fair. If you are able to donate a multi pack of sweets or chocolate to support the stall, it would be greatly appreciated.
Finally, we will continue our work with Sale Sharks this week. PE days can change depending on weather at this time of year and many children don’t have their kit in school with them when needed. It would be helpful if PE kit could remain in school throughout the week and taken home at the weekend if necessary. Children also need to remember to return it after taking part in clubs. We are short of Y5/6 sized spare kit so if you have old, outgrown items at home, please consider donating it to school.
I look forward to seeing many of you at the fair.
