Year 6

Another busy week for Year 6, filled with making air raid shelters, writing bravery award speeches and team building games.

To begin the week, we took part in our pupil-led worship.  We shared our thoughts about how Jesus was a great teacher and how we should try to be more like him and follow in his footsteps.

In Maths, we continued our algebra unit.  We learnt that when you are solving an equation, you have to move everything except the missing number to one side.  Anything you do to one side, you must also do to the other.  We completed function machines and used algebraic expressions to describe sets of cubes.

In English, we planned and wrote our bravery award speeches about the character Rose Blanche.  We looked at different ways of beginning sentences using formal speech and incorporated formal speech phrases within our writing.  We then used all the information we had learnt to write an award speech about the marine, David Coleman.

We enjoyed a few team building games this week to help develop our social skills, learn how to work together, improve our communication skills, enhance our problem-solving abilities and increase our self-esteem.  We had such fun playing the move on, move back game and then blind folding each other and trying to follow each of our voices.

Forest School was a wonderful way to end the half term.  We made love hearts from willow, toasted marshmallows and made smores, we even celebrated Mrs T’s birthday with chocolate brownies around the fire.

With it being our last week before half term, we designed and made Anderson Shelters from corrugated card.  We added a firm structure to hold the shape and embellished them with moss and soil, some of us even made vegetable patches and washing lines.  They were amazing!

We hope you all have a wonderful half term and look forward to seeing you all ready and raring to go again next term.
