Year 6 w.b: 07.10.24
Date: 10th Oct 2024 @ 5:19pm
We have had the most amazing week in Year 6! It has been filled with researching Antarctic animals ready for our adaptaptation reports, learning more about the suffragette movement and creating a Bible timeline in watercolour. The highlight has to be our Learning Exhibition though, we were thrilled to share our learning with you all.
In Maths, we began our unit on division, we began working out divisions mentally, then completed calculations using the bus stop method which is a maths strategy for short division. We soon got the hang of some quite tricky divisions and even managed to complete some word problems involving 6 or 7 digits.
In English, we began to plan an adaptation explanation about our chosen animal. Firstly, we needed to explain what adaptation was and how animals must learn to adapt to their environment and change their physical appearance and behaviour in order to thrive. We researched our animal and how they have evolved in their climate.
In Spanish, we revised El afabeto espanol then played a little quiz. We had to listen to the spellings of food and had to write each letter down and guess the food. We then improved our Spanish pronunciation by revising the hard and soft sounds.
In History, we discussed gender equality still being an issue although the gender gap is closing. We found out that in 2016, 52,000 women lost their jobs due to pregnancy discrimination and only 29% of MP's were female.
In PE, our focus was on movement- dodging and evading skilfully in several ways to find space and move away from defenders. We played several games and then put this into practice in netball matches.
In Music, we turned words into a musical code with pitch tuned percussion instruments. We used keyboards, xylophones and chime bars to create different melodies.
In PSHE, we discussed different relationships; a relationship is how two or more people are connected. You can have many different kinds of relationships and it is healthy to have lots of different friendships and relationships with people, as humans we are social beings, so we need people around us, we need to have friends and socialise. We also learnt about marriage and civil partnerships and how forced marriage is illegal in our country.
In Art, we created our own ‘Bible Timeline’ using watercolour. We learnt that watercolour is a painting method in which the paints are made of pigments suspended in a water-based solution. We can’t wait for you to see our finished timeline on display.
Finally, we welcomed Mr Mason into our class this week, he will start to teach us over the coming weeks and we look forward to helping him with his teaching journey.
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the autumnal sunshine and maybe even catch a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis.
