Welcome back and Happy New Year to everyone!
We have started the year with a bang and have wonderful, if not very chilly week. We have begun to revise ready for our upcoming SATs and it is going very well. We are confident we will all be fully equipped and prepared.
In English, we have commenced our Rose Blanche unit of work. Rose Blanche is about a young girl living in a small town in Germany. One day, some trucks with soldiers [Nazis] show up and take over the town. Then, some people are rounded up and put on trucks that drive them away. Rose, curious about these truckloads of people, decides to follow them. So far, we have learnt some new vocabulary and found out the definitions in order to help us with our writing.
In Maths, we began our converting units’ topic. To begin with, we sorted metric units into the correct categories followed by choosing the most appropriate unit of measurement for different items. We then converted metric measures; grams to kilograms and tonnes, millimetres to centimetres and metres and then finally miles and kilometres. We found out there was roughly 5 miles to 8 km. We then had great fun converting these and finding out which country has the higher speed by checking their maximum speed limits.
In History, we began our World War II unit and how the war actually began. Adolf Hitler's invasion of Poland in September 1939 drove Great Britain and France to declare war on Germany, marking the beginning of World War II. Over the next six years, the conflict took more lives and destroyed more land and property around the globe than any previous war.
In RE, we learnt all about the Eucharist. The Eucharist is celebrated to the glory of God because the Lord commands us to 'do this in memory' of him. It proclaims the death and resurrection of Jesus until he comes again in glory. It is the remembrance of God's saving work in Jesus, and a visible expression of the Church.
In Art, we created our own Eucharist pieces of art. Some of us created a stained-glass window effects, whilst others chose to draw symbols to represent the bread and wine or even watercolours of the Last Supper. The bread eaten in the Lord's supper symbolises Jesus' body which was broken on the cross, and the cup symbolises His blood that was shed for sin.
In P.E, we learnt basketball skills, we started off by learning how to dribble the ball using our fingertips. We then used our new-found skills to play ‘King or Queen of the Ring’ we had to dribble the ball around; if we lost control of the ball, we were out. The last person standing was the winner.
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and stay safe in these icy conditions.
