Year 6 wb: 04.09.24

Date: 6th Sep 2024 @ 3:41pm

What a wonderful first week back we’ve had, we have all made a super start to Year 6!

In Maths, we began using Place value charts to represent numbers and understand how the number system works. We learnt how to read, write and compare numbers, as well as how to understand how zero works as a placeholder.

In English, we began learning about Charles Darwin’s early life. Charles Robert Darwin was born on February 12, 1809, in Shropshire, England. He did quite poorly throughout school. Nevertheless, he attended the University of Edinburgh and the University of Cambridge. We really enjoyed learning about his life as a child and his adventures as he grew up.Next week we will be continuing to look at his travels and discoveries.

In Art, we learnt about the Spanish artist Salvador Dali who blended reality with fantasy in his works. Throughout his life he created a tremendous number of paintings, graphic works, book illustrations, and designs for jewellery, textiles, clothing, costumes, and stage sets. We created our knowldege organisers and some of us had a go at copying some of his drawings.

Also, some of us wrote and performed our speeches to be school councillors.  Mrs Pirie and Mrs Taylor were ever so impressed at how confident we were.

We ended our week with a glorious visit to forest school-we worked on teambuilding.  We had such fun playing tug-of-war, inventing our own teambuilding games and enjoying the beautiful sunshine.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday.
