Year 6 21.03.25
Date: 21st Mar 2025 @ 3:59pm
What a great week we’ve had in Year 6!
In art we went incognito and created stencilled pictures and printed graffiti art outside – just like Banksy.
In Maths, we continued our unit on decimals. We began by multiplying decimals by 10, 100 and 1,000, to help with this we drew counters on place value charts to represent our calculations. Once we had mastered multiplication, we moved onto divided decimals by the same amounts. Finally, we practised multiplying and dividing decimals by integers.
In English, we planned our balanced argument, we gathered ideas for and against reintroducing wolves back into the UK. We used technical vocabulary and weighed up each side of the argument equally and considered both sides without favouring one or the other. We also included reasons and evidence for both sides.
In Geography, we looked at how mountains have become tourist destinations and how they have made an impact on the environment. We discovered that mountains can be places for leisure activities and many people like to ski on mountains. Other people like to climb mountains whilst some people like to just visit mountains to take photos and admire their beauty.
In Guided Reading, we have been looking at past reading papers and focusing on skills to prepare us for SATs.
In Art, we ventured outside and created very unique pieces of graffiti artwork, just like Banksy. We used a variety of skills: stencilling, printing and freehand drawing to produce posters showing issues we feel strongly about.
In Religious Education, we looked at the Bible story where Moses freed the Israelites from Egypt. This taught us that it’s easy to let a complaining attitude take over when things are not going our way. As God’s children we need to trust that he is in charge and will work things out.
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
