Year 6 04.10.24
Date: 4th Oct 2024 @ 4:00pm
Yet another amazing week in Year 6, filled with finding factors of numbers, completing our discovery narratives and exhibiting our incredible dioramas.
In Maths, we found factors of numbers; a factor is a number that divides into another number exactly, without leaving a remainder. We then had to work out which numbers were prime numbers; a prime number is a number that has exactly two factors - itself and 1.
In English, we completed our astounding discovery narratives; we described creatures that Darwin and FitzRoy may have found on their adventures. We thought about whether they were a predator or prey, their appearance and how they moved. We do hope you enjoy reading them!
In Spanish, we recapped the vocabulary we have previously leant. We then played a quiz; naming the countries in Spanish - it was quite tricky but we but we enjoyed playing. Following this, we learnt some new vocabulary and how to pronounce the words correctly.
In History, we looked at the role of women if the 60’s and 70’s. The 60s and 70s saw the emergence of feminist groups and heightened awareness of gender inequality – campaigning for more rights and greater opportunities saw very many more women aware of their potential and the need for change. We also found our than in 1968, at the Ford factory in Dagenham, 187 female sewing machinists went on strike. They refused to work because they were being paid 15% less than their male colleagues, despite carrying out the same tasks. In addition to this, they wanted to be recognised as skilled labourers after passing a test to join the factory. They were successful I this and the Equal Pay Act was introduced in 1970.
In RE, we continued looking at journeys and learnt what pilgrimages are and why they are important. We found out that they are holy journeys that show a commitment to many different faiths and allow people to feel closer to their God.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend.
