Year 6 - w/c 23/11/15
Date: 21st Nov 2015 @ 8:03pm
I hope the children have shared their new scientific knowledge with you following a fantastic day on Friday. Although, i do apologise if they have now used all your cleaning equipment and vinegar!
Next week we will be working hard to develop our writing skills thinking about varying our sentences. We will be looking at 3 different sentence types, writing them, finding them in reading and using them in our own extended writing. They follow our usual must, should and could scale of difficulty:
Must: Double ly ending
This sentence type includes a verb and ends in two adverbs.
She walked slowly and carefully. He wrote swiftly and assertively.
Should: _ing, _ed
The first part of this sentence begins with a verb ending ing. This part is followed by a comma, pronoun and second verb ending ed.
Driving to town, she stopped to watch the crowds gather.
Running the beach, he noticed the car driving towards him.
Could: The more, the more
This sentence uses and emotion after the first 'the more' and a related action after the second.
The more upset she became, the more her tears flowed.
The more angry he became, the more he hammered his fists on the table.
Please encourage children to look out for these and similar sentences in their reading.
Finally, I hope to see many of you at the Christmas Fair on Friday.
