Year 5 WC 9th December
Date: 13th Dec 2024 @ 12:24pm
What a busy and exciting week it has been in Year 5.
We started the week by watching the Key Stage 1 nativity performance of Busy, Busy Bethlehem. The children did an amazing job and it was lovely to watch them on the stage. Back in class, we linked this to our RE lessons by discussing the Christmas story and identifying which parts of the nativity came from the Gospels of Luke and Matthew.
Tuesday was full of music and energy as we watched the Rocksteady performance. All the children were fantastic and it was wonderful to see what they have been getting up to in their lessons each week. If your child is interested in joining Rocksteady, there are letters in the classroom with more details.
On Thursday we went to church with Year 6 for our class worship with Rev. Sandi. We looked at the Christmas story from the perspective of the innkeeper, thinking about how Jesus' birth impacted different people.
In English this week, we've been taking on the roles of astronauts! We've been writing formal mission logs about landing on and exploring Titan, one of Saturn's moons. The children have amazed us with their understanding of formal language and grammar, especially their use of parenthesis using commas, dashes and brackets. It's been wonderful to see their enthusiasm for this unit!
In Maths, we've been mastering adding and subtracting fractions- a tricky topic, but Year 5 have shown great resilience. We have also completed end of term assessments and we hope the children feel very proud of their hard work this term.
Next week we won't be following our usual timetable. Please take note of a few changes:
Monday- We'll be starting our design and technology unit (sewing an Underground Railroad patchwork blanket)
Tuesday- Year 5/6 Christmas party- children make come to school in non-uniform/party clothes.
Wednesday- Christmas Dinner day and then in the afternoon we have PE with Mr Aspinall so please wear PE kits
Thursday- Christmas service at church. Please remember to bring a coat.
We hope you have a lovely weekend.
