Year 5 WC 21st October 2024

Date: 24th Oct 2024 @ 12:50pm

I can't believe we're at the end of our first half term. It's been a great start to the year and we've loved getting to know each of the children as we've setted into new routines and started our learning journey together. We also enjoyed meeting many of you at parent consultations last night- thank you for your support and feedback.

Highlights of the half term

We've had lots of exciting experiences over the last 7 weeks, including:

  • Singfest rehearsals have begun, and it's been wonderful to see their enthusiasm for learning the new songs.
  • The Art of Brilliance workshops were a real inspiration, helping us to focus on how to be our best selves. We're looking forward to continuing with this project after half term.
  • Our Learning Exhibition was a great opportunity to showcase their hard work. It was lovely to see them proudly sharing their learning with such confidence. The children also enjoyed listening to your comments in their 'wow' book.
  • Our Pilgrim Day at Chester Cathedral was also a fantastic experience.

This week

In English, we have been working on writing biographies about Harriet Tubman. The children have been fascinated by her story of courage and determination.

In Maths, we have started our multiplication and division unit. The first TTRS battle between the year groups starts tomorrow at 9am and will run until Sunday 3rd November at 7pm.

For No Outsiders, we read Rose Blanche and had some thoughtful discussions about the difficult decisions Rose had to make and how she justified her answers.

In PSHE, the children had to work in groups to create a character of their own age. They considered their hobbies, family circumstances, strengths and weaknesses. They then had to imagine that their character was faced with a difficult situation (e.g. they were falling out with friends from school and no longer wanted to come to school) and came up with some ideas for coping strategies for their character. The children had some very thoughtful and mature suggestions.

It's been a busy half term and we hope you all enjoy a restful break. We look forward to even more great learning next half term!
