Year 5 WC 11th November 2024
Date: 14th Nov 2024 @ 1:57pm
We've had another wonderful week of learning in Year 5.
In English, the children have really impressed us with their enthusiasm for our topic about landing on the Moon. They have had some amazing ideas when writing poems using metaphors and similes; shown a great understanding of Neil Armstrong's character and today they have been exploring our model text which is an exploration narrative about someone landing on the Moon. Next week, we'll be planning and starting to write our own exploration narrative.
In Maths, Mrs Hartley has been teaching the children about multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 understanding how the numbers move to the left or the right, whether they need to add a placeholder and what this means. Today they have been using this to help them to multiply and divide by multiples of 10, 100 and 1000.
In Art, the children looked at the artist, Jackon Pollock, focusing on sketching astronauts in different positions. They practised their sketching skills using shading and adding tint.
In RE, we looked again at the Christmas story and compared the versions in the gospels and Matthew and Luke. After discussing how they are different, we talked about the reasons why this is. The children then reflected on what they thought was the most important part of the Christmas story and why.
In PSHE, Mrs Hartley worked with the class focusing on good listening skills. They then role-played how to be a good listener.
We have also started our Art of Brilliance following our wonderful workshops with Will before half term. This week, the children were challenged to think about what their best 10/10 version of themselves looks like. It was harder than you think!
We hope you all have a lovely weekend.
