Year 5 - w/b 4th November
Date: 8th Nov 2024 @ 4:05pm
Hello everyone,
It was really nice to see everyone back in this week, rested from the half term break and really engaged in their lessons once again.
Our new focus for English this week is space and particualrly the Moon landings, which is also one that graps the imagination and provokes a great deal of questions! We have also been using a non-fiction text on space for our guided reading activities, and investigating how books like this include different features ( photographs, sub-heading, page layout etc) to attract the reader.
In maths we have been working through prime, square and cube numbers, which has been tricky at times but we've definitely secured our understanding. We've also started covering multiplication by 10, 100 & 1,000.
Today, we re-started our 'Reading Buddies' activity where we pair up each child with a pupil from Year 2 and share their love of books with them. It is so nice to see the engagement between our class and those further down the school, and I think the photos below do it justice.
This term our computing unit is looking at using coding to produce pieces of music, so we had an exploration lesson using Scratch to get us started - hopefully by the end of the unit we will have a 'Battle of the Bands' competition to see who has programmed the best piece of music!
Next week, the main event on our calendar is the school Remembrance Service at church on Monday morning. Please keep an eye on the weather forecast and make sure that your child has a coat if the conditions are not the best.
Have a great weekend!
