Year 5 WB 3rd February
Date: 7th Feb 2025 @ 4:25pm
Firstly, thank you to everyone who came along to the Learning Exhibition on Thursday, the children absolutely adore having you visit and allowing them to tell you all about their learning.
With that in mind, this blog seems a little superfluous as many of you will know everything we have been doing in class this past week! However, I will give you a brief summary on what the children have been learning and a little look forward to next week.
In maths, we have returned to fractions - starting with multiplying fractions and mixed numbers by integers. It hasn't been without hiccups, but I can now confidently say that we do seem to have it cracked. Next week we will be exploring how to calculate a fraction of an amount, and finding the whole from the fraction - I promise the lessons will make more sense than that last sentence!
In science today, we started a new unit on the properties of materials by looking at definitions of scientific terms such as permeable, flexible, absorbent and flammable - despite suggestions offered by some, we don't intend to be testing the flammability of the school any time soon...
For English, the children have been planning and writing their cliffhanger narrative, using our model text of the Hound of the Baskervilles as a loose guide into building suspense and using dramatic language. These are coming along very well... (see what I did there?)
On Thursday, we had a lesson from Mr George, a teacher at Congleton High School, who came to deliver a Playground Leader lesson for the class. They discussed what elements make a great leader and then took part in some activities that develop these skills out on the playgorund.
Next week is the final week before half term, so some afternoon lessons may change a little, although P.E. on Wednesday remains. Forest School will be back on Thursday so do remember those waterproofs and wellies.
Have a great weekend,
Mr. Cotton & Mrs. Field
