Year 5 w/b 22nd March
Date: 27th Mar 2021 @ 5:06pm
Year 5 have worked so hard this week.
We have been looking at the writer features used in our model text – a story about journeying to space. We have been experimenting; using these in our own writing and will be using them in our finished stories next week. The children have also continued to work on common spelling errors and improving their handwriting. Well done to the first two children to win our special spelling and presentation awards in Celebration Assembly!
In maths, we have completed work on fractions and started to look at decimals. The children were quick to spot how they are related to fractions and apply their knowledge.
In Forest Schools we took science outside and launched rockets. Some worked really well, but the children realised how important the stability was and improved their rockets for re-launch the next day. You can see from the video that they were incredibly concerned for Miss Mitton’s safety!
In history, we continued learning about the Space Race with children looking at the key events and learning about why Yuri Gagarin was selected as the first person to go to space.
Next week, we will be focusing on the importance of computers in space exploration and learning to write code. I am quite certain that the children will overtake me by the end of the week and we will have lots of fun!
We will also be completing our RE unit looking at Salvation and the events of Holy Week. Some of the children also volunteered to be part of the Easter Service and we will be recording that this week.
I am sure it will be a busy but fun end to the term and I hope you all have a lovely Easter.
