Year 5 w/b 21st September
Date: 25th Sep 2020 @ 12:20pm
Y5 have all worked hard this week.
The children are now more familiar with the routines and expectations and have risen to the challenge of our increased expectations this week.
In English, they have started writing their cliff-hanger stories. I have been so impressed with the detail and vocabulary children have used. We are continuing to look at punctuating our work correctly.
In maths, we have completed our unit of place value by looking at rounding numbers to one million and navigating the, sometimes complex, rules of roman numerals. Next week we will be working on addition and subtraction.
They have spent lots of time outside completing PE with Multiflex on Wednesday afternoon and a cross-country run with Mr Capewell from HCCS on Thursday morning.
In art we have been looking at drawing light and shade. We began by looking at shadows outside (in the last of the warm weather), recognising their shape, where they fell, their size and where they joined the shape. The children were so proud of their work and we will continue looking at different textures in outdoor learning next week.
In history and geography, we have been looking at continents and labelling maps. We then moved onto looking at triangular trade and how slaves were taken from Africa in the 1600 – 1800s.
In science, children have continued to investigate forces by making and testing their own parachutes.
We also have the first 3 clues of our new safe code and the children are all keen to crack it!
